Albert "Frank" Schonauer, age 82, of Newark, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. He was born in Killbuck, Ohio on January 9, 1942, to the late John Alexander and Donna Marie (Smailes) Schonauer.
Frank was the 6th of 7 children. After graduating from Killbuck High School, he attended Ohio University where he received a Bachelor's and Master's degree in education.
Frank met Judy Mullenix during his first year of teaching in the Heath School system; they were married August 21, 1966. They made their home in Newark raising their children Angela and Kevin, before retiring as teachers. In retirement, Frank painted for the school system in the summers and also worked at Park National bank.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy Schonauer; children, Angela (Tim) Crawford and Kevin (Tamara) Schonauer; grandchildren, Seth, Luke, and Anneliese Schonauer; sister, Susie Bucklew; brothers-in-law, Joe (Sue) Mullenix and Larry Mullenix; numerous nieces and nephews including Ryan (Elizabeth), Alyson, Heath, and their children; many special friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Atlee, Dean, David, Erma, and Dwight; father and mother-in-law, Pastor Joe and Mary Mullenix.
Visitation will be held from 11am - 12pm Friday, January 3, 2025, with a 12pm funeral service at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st, St. Newark, Ohio 43055. A graveside service at Newark Memorial Gardens will take place immediately following the funeral service, Pastor Chuck Shroll officiation.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Select Speciality Hospital and Flint Ridge Rehab for their attentive care given to Frank.
