Barbara Jane Bates, 90, of Heath, died Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born December 4, 1934 in Byesville, OH to the late Morgan and Dora (Atkins) Hinson Sr.

Barbara was a member of Southgate Church of Christ where she was active in Southgate Thursday School for 43 years, JOY Group and the Tuesday ladies Bible study. She was always loyal to her weekly hair appointment. Barb loved children and was a grandmother to all who had the pleasure of meeting her.

She is survived by her children, Jeffery Lynn (Eydie) Bates of Thornville, Kim E. (Sherrie) Bates of Hopewell and Patricia Sue (Mark) Kryling of St. Louisville; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; twin sister, Beverly June Miller; 3 sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hinson, Sandy Hinson and Cheryl Barton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Scott Bates; siblings, Muriel Jetto, Eugene Hinson, Aubrey Hinson, Donald Hinson, Morgan Reid Hinson Jr. and James Martin Hinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Barbara to the Southgate Church of Christ, 1070 S. 30th St., Heath, OH 43056.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 1, 2025 from 2-3 pm at the Southgate Church of Christ where a memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Rob Hartman officiating.
