Barbara Ellen Claggett, 91 of Newark passed away on June 13, 2026 at Newark Rehabilitation Center. She was born on August 21, 1934 in Newark, OH to the late Carl Harry and Erma Roseanna (Winegardner) Oakleaf.

Barbara graduated from Newark High School in 1952. She had worked at Granville IGA and was a volunteer at The Works, Robbins Hunter Museum and Par Excellence. She took senior citizen art classes at Denison and loved to draw and write calligraphy. She also enjoyed ceramics and reading.

She is survived by her children, Katrina Newman, Kevin Claggett and Nathan (Sherry) Claggett; grandchildren, Tabitha (Mark) Gail, Bethany Newman, Vanessa Newman, Caleb Claggett and Colby Claggett; great-grandson, Bruce Gail; siblings, Ron Oakleaf, Mary Alice Rapp and Shirley (Al) Overbay; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Philip Claggett; brothers, Ralph (Freda) Oakleaf, Carl Oakleaf and Kenneth (Helen) Oakleaf; brother-in-law, Jack Rapp; and sister-in-law, Anne Oakleaf.

The family will receive friends from 11-1pm on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark followed by the funeral service at 1pm with Pastor Mark Falls officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.
