Barbara L. Rian, 85 of Newark passed away after a brief illness on June 20, 2026 at her residence. She was born on June 28, 1940 in Newark, OH to the late Edward C. and Nellie L. (Romine) Jones.

Barbara retired from Holophane. She enjoyed playing card games- Euchre, Canasta and Pinochle at the Licking County Aging Program with her many friends. She also enjoyed traveling and was always on the go. She never let the grass grow under her feet.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Rian; daughters, Terre Shoenfelt and Angel (Matthew Shinn) Maharg; grandchildren, Chad (Samantha Cormican) Shoenfelt, Lindsay (Eric) Lee, Jacob Maharg, Drew Maharg and Victoria Rian-Simmers; great-grandchildren, Carter and Corbin Lee and Jameson Shoenfelt; special friend, Kenneth Machwart and his family; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Rian; brother, James R. Jones; and son-in-law, Mark Shoenfelt.

Per her wishes, no services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
