Obituary

Bonnie Gayle Artz, 88, of Newark, died Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Altercare Newark North. She was born November 3, 1936 in Fallsburg, OH to the late Chester and Amy (Frey) Clark.

Bonnie attended the Utica Church of Christ, where her faith was a guiding light throughout her life.

A talented and creative soul, she found joy in crocheting, sewing, crafting, gardening, and listening to music. In her younger years, she lovingly made clothes for her children by hand, pouring care into every stitch. She also had a passion for making desserts—and enjoyed eating them just as much.

Affectionately known by her family as the "Candy Smuggler," she had a well-known sweet tooth, especially for chocolate. Her warm heart, quick wit, and playful spirit will be deeply missed.

More than anything, she cherished her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she adored every moment spent with them.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and sweet memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Gayle (Michael) Cronin, Beth Artz and Ronda (Jeff) Oder; grandchildren, Scott (Katie) Cronin, Chris Cronin, Alexa (Andreas) Wente and Austi (Ryan Flemming) Welsh; great grandchildren, Audrey, Lexi, Natalie, Havin, Audrey, Claire and Owen; two great great grandchildren and one more on the way; sister, Dianna (Sam) Hill; brother, Gary Clark; special friend and caregiver, Shana Newell; and her faithful four-legged companion, Lucy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Danny Artz.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Central Ohio, caregivers at First Light and the staff at Altercare Newark North.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bonnie to the Licking County Adoption Center and/or St. Vincent de Paul Center.
