Obituary

C. David Carpenter, 90 of Newark passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 with his loving wife by his side. He was born on July 17, 1935 in Martinsburg, OH to the late Paul and Olive (Hess) Carpenter. He grew up in Newark, attended Roosevelt Jr. High School and graduated from Newark High School in 1953.

David began his career with Pure Oil Company in 1956 and later became the owner and CEO of Carpenter Oil Company. He was a respected businessman who was widely known for his dedication to his customers and his strong work ethic.

Throughout his life, David was involved in his community and belonged to numerous organizations, including North Little League, Newark Area Jaycees, Newark Elks Lodge, Newark Masonic Lodge where he served as Master Mason. He also served as President of the Church Council at St. John’s United Church of Christ, was a member of Moundbuilders Country Club and was active in the Ohio Petroleum Marketers Association (OPMA).

David enjoyed playing golf, working in his yard and spending time in Florida with friends and family. Above all else, his greatest joy in life was his devotion to his family.

David will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, devotion to family and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him. He cherished time spent with loved ones and valued the friendships he built throughout his life.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years, Jill (Huiss) Carpenter; children, Stephen (Paula) Carpenter, Kristin (John) Miller and Michael Carpenter; grandchildren, Ashtin (Jesse) Kearton, Abbie (Brent) Wallace, Nicholas (Fiona) Carpenter, Michael Miller, Scott Hanson, Kate, Rachel, Sydney, Victoria and Regan Carpenter; and great-grandchildren, Penelope, Wade, Cassidy, Rooney, Zoey and Jack.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved son, Jeffrey Carpenter

The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at the funeral home with Elaine Gard officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 285 W. National Dr., Newark, OH 43055.
