Carlyn "Punch" Starr, 92 of Newark passed away on February 22, 2026 at the Inn at SharonBrooke. She was born on September 18, 1933 in Parkersburg, WV to the late Carl and Marie (Lancaster) Schauwecker.

She graduated from PHS in 1951 and went on to graduate from Potomac State Jr. College, Keyser, WV with an Associate degree in Medical Secretarial Science. She worked for Justus C. Picket, MD in Morgantown, WV. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul Thomas Starr, Jr. "Hoss" in 1954. Together they lived in Parkersburg for 5 years as Hoss began coaching. They moved to Circleville for 6 years before coming to Newark in 1968 to coach the Newark Wildcats. Punch loved being a coaches wife and was his #1 fan.

She loved being with family, especially camping trips with the kids. She loved her faith (Northside Baptist Church) and her friends. She worked a few years as a teachers aide for NCS and retired in 1997.

She is survived by her children, Kelly Starr of Newark, Tom (Angie) Starr of Frazeysburg, Jodi (Lew) Puckett of Granville and Betsy (Jim) Lyons of Alexander, AR; grandchildren, Nick (Jenn) Canale, Ross (Chloe) Matheny, Cameron (Lacie) Lyons and Parker (Allison) Lyons; great-grandchildren, Gia and Theo Canale, Miller Matheny, Huey and Opal Lyons; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Paul "Hoss" Starr who passed away in 2011; and sisters, JoAnn Collins and Myra Welsh.

The family will receive friends from 11-1pm on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark where the funeral service will be held at 1pm with Chaplain Zach Ostrem officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.

With heartfelt gratitude, our family thanks you for the compassionate care you gave our mother during her time at SharonBrooke Assisted Living. Your kindness, patience, and dignity brought her comfort and meant so much to all of us. We will always be grateful. With sincere appreciation, the Starr family.
