Carol Jean
Van Winkle
Apr 27, 1929 — Dec 24, 2023
Carol Jean Van Winkle, 94, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 24, 2023. She was a resident at Sharon Brooke Assisted Living in Newark, OH. She was born Carol Booth in Eden Township, Licking County, Ohio, on April 27, 1929. She grew up on a rural farm and married Don G. Van Winkle, the neighbor's son, and they were happily married for 56 years.
After high school, she trained as a lab technician and married Don when he returned from Germany after WW2. They settled in St. Louisville, OH, and she became a stay-at-home mother raising five children. She was a member of Newark Central Christian Church in Newark, Ohio, and she particularly liked going on mission trips to help rebuild communities along the Gulf Coast devastated by hurricanes. She volunteered and supported the Medical Loan Closet at Central Christian, which loaned out medical equipment to anyone who needed it. She is well known for her FROG ministry, which she witnessed to almost everyone she met. She would tell them FROG stood for "Forever Rely On God." She believed it, and she lived it. Besides loving her OSU Buckeyes, she dearly loved her family and enjoyed traveling and experiencing "extreme" adventures with them.
In addition to her husband, Don, and parents, Orville and Gladys Booth, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Mary; two brothers (Franklin and Carney) and two sisters (Margaret and Katheryn).
Five children survive her: Mark (Donna) of St. Louisville, OH; Joe (Judy) of Anderson, SC; Larry (Mindy) of Mt. Vernon, OH; Dona Gibson (Thom) of Gainesville, FL; and Brian (Bonnie) of Mt. Vernon, OH. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Friday, December 29, 2023 at Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark, OH. The funeral service will be held at Newark Central Christian Church, 587 Mount Vernon Road, Newark, OH at 11am on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery.
Flowers are accepted, and memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055.
