Carolyn J. Welsh (Sprague)
It is with profound sadness and heartfelt love that we announce the sudden passing of Carolyn J. Welsh (Sprague), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on October 6, 2026. Born on January 24, 1949, in Columbus, OH, Carolyn's life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and the deep bonds of family.
Carolyn was the cherished daughter of the late John J. and Ester I. Sprague, and she was predeceased by her dear siblings, Sandra S. Reed, Rebecca I. Busch, and John L. Sprague. Survived by a sister Jannie E. Caminiti. Her family roots grounded her with values that she carried throughout her life, enriching those around her with love and support.
A proud graduate of Johnstown Monroe High School in 1967, Carolyn's early career saw her working diligently as a waitress. Yet, her aspirations led her to earn a cosmetology license, showcasing her innate creativity and skill. With a persistent desire to help others, she graduated in 1988 from Southwest Technology Center and embarked on a fulfilling career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). For many years, Carolyn served with compassion at the Licking County Justice Center before retiring in 1999.
Faith was a cornerstone of Carolyn's life. As an active member of the Community Wesleyan Church, she was involved in various church activities, embodying a spirit of community and service. Her hobbies reflected her generous nature; she found immense joy in sewing and crafting heartfelt gifts for her family and friends. Additionally, Carolyn’s talent for writing poetry provided another avenue for her to express her warm and introspective nature.
Above all, Carolyn’s heart was devoted to her family. She shared 46 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Paul, with whom she raised two wonderful children, Rhonda S. Rogers and Vincent J. Burke. Carolyn was also a devoted stepmother to Jeanette Stormes of Connecticut. Her grandchildren, Kyle D. Rogers and McKenzie B. Rogers, were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them, as well as with her two great-grandchildren, Lane M. Rogers and McKay O. Barker. Carolyn also had many nieces and nephews with a special niece Hope A. Baughman.
Carolyn's legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. Her laughter, wisdom, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Community Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Randy Clour officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the church, 161 Myrtle Ave., Newark, OH 43055.
