Charles Admiral "Charlie" Markle, Jr.

Charles Admiral "Charlie" Markle, Jr. passed away on July 11, 2025, at The Laurels of Heath care facility. He was born on December 12, 1933, to the late Charles A. Markle, Sr. and Dorothy (Wood) Markle in Cambridge, Ohio. He was a lifelong resident of central Ohio, living mostly in Frazeysburg and Newark.

Charlie was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany during the cold war years of the fifties. Before that he pursued his lifelong passion of driving trucks. He hauled dirt that was excavated from the Kaiser Aluminum site when he was in his teens, and through the years hauled for Riss, Eazor Express, and B&L trucking companies on single lane mountain roads in an R model Mack. He later founded Markle Transport and drove commercially to the age of 84.

Over the years Charlie helped many people through trying times and helped pay for many funerals. He had a kind heart and would put himself out to help those in need.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great grandson, Jeramiah.

He is survived by his sons, Charles A. "Chuck" Markle, III (Gina), Lucas "Luke" Markle, and Danny Layton (Nat); brother, Jerry Markle (Molly); daughter-in-law, Gina Markle; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Markle (Tory) of Omaha, NE, Jennifer Markle Chase of Omaha, NE, Brandon Nethers (Elisa) of Newark, and Bradley Elswick of Ironton, and 12 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Brucker and Kishler funeral home. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlie's name to Hospice of Central Ohio or the Laurels of Heath. A special thank you to all the staff at the Laurels for all their loving care, who became endeared with Charlie and attended to all his needs.
