Cheryl Faye
Lentz
Jul 18, 1946 — Jun 1, 2024
Newark
Cheryl Faye (Myers) Lentz, age 77, of Newark, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024, with her loved ones near. She was born in Newark on July 18, 1946, to the late William Conrad and Janice Marie (Mitchell) Myers.
As a Newark High School Alumni voted 'most fun in a group', Cheryl's joyful nature illuminated any gathering. She cared deeply for those suffering; stopping to help lost dogs, injured animals, and humans in need. As a teacher she loved to learn; after earning her teaching credential at Ohio State University she went on with graduate studies in San Francisco and Cincinnati. She shared her joy for life as a preschool teacher in San Francisco, a case worker for LICCO, and elementary school teacher for 20 years. After retiring from Johnston Unified School district, she could not give up helping others and worked at the Center for the Visually Impaired. This March she was designated with the Isle Depalmo Service Award for her work with the Licking County Aging Program.
She leaves a treasure trove of friends with whom she has shared deep faith, serious work, and a million laughs at Spaghetti Dinners, Murder Mysteries, and hand and foot tables. Of all those whose lives she touched none were gifted by her light more than her family. She was a reckless joy to her parents and a stalwart best friend to her sisters Mimi and Karen. As a mother she would tell anyone that her kids were the very best humans on the planet; they will deeply miss their biggest cheerleader. She shaped the lives of her four grandchildren through endless craft projects, playing in the dirt, and unexpected 'Gammee-ventures'. She and her husband, Fred, were the center of each other's lives. Their time together was filled with laughter and escapades great and small. She used her life to make the world a better place. She is deeply missed and always loved.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Fred Lentz; children, Elizabeth "Libby" Marie Hodgson (Jason) White and Eliot McCracken (Rachael) Hodgson; grandchildren, Judah Conrad White age 14, Stella Faye White age 12, Idunn Aria Hodgson age 8, and Freyr Robert Hodgson age 19 months; sisters Marylin "Mimi" Winters and Karen Codlin.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at The Works - 55 S. 1st Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
