Cornelius "Dick" Hayes, age 92, of Newark, passed away on April 29, 2024. Dick was born on December 8, 1931, to the late Gather A. and Naomi Mae (Allen) Hayes, in Liberty, KY.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, during the Korean Conflict. Dick worked for the Licking County Sheriff Department, and retired from Holophane. After retiring from Holophane Dick went into concrete work. He is a member of The Church of Christ and currently attended The Heath Church of Christ. Dick enjoyed horseback riding, camping, fishing, traveling, and woodworking.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Shirley A. (Clarkston) Hayes; daughter, Jessica A. Hayes; granddaughters, Jakob Stallworth, Aurora Gutliph, Abigail Hayes; great grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Linda) Hayes; sisters, Betty Fitch, Viola Presley, Bonnie (Rocky) Boyd, Kay (Larry) Zimmerman, Joyce Harmon, and Debra (Kenneth) Robinson; brother-in-law, Dale (Sue) Clarkston; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Decker, Virginia  Carolyn Renner, Terry Craig, Charlotte Hayes, Annette Hayes; and brother, Bernard Howard Hayes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otis (Dorothea) Clarkston.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, from  4 - 7  PM at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, where his services will follow on Tuesday, at 1 PM with Pastor Cory Campbell. Burial will take place in Fairmount Cemetery.
