Darrel Wesley Betts, age 89, of Newark, died Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. He was born in Lewisville, Ohio on June 9, 1936, to the late Elbert Wesley and Zelda M. (Weber) Betts.

Darrel was a loving father and the best grandpa ever. He was a member of 2nd Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. He enjoyed building homes and working with his hands. He worked for the Newark Township Zoning Appeals Board for over 20 years, as well as working for Roots and Shoots.

He is survived by his children, Eric Alan (Janie) Betts and Brian Keith (Tonya Burkholder) Betts; siblings, Russell (Mary) Betts, Delmas (Lucy) Betts, Ronald Betts; granddaughter, Casey (Joseph) Thornton; great-grandchild, Briele Hernandez.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Linda Dianne (Morrison) Betts; brother, Gary Betts.

Visitation will be held from 2p.m.-4p.m. Sunday, May 17, and 9a.m.-10a.m. Monday, May 18, 2026, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st, St. Newark, Ohio 43055, followed immediately by a 10a.m. funeral service. A 12p.m. graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery will take place after the funeral service, Pastor Bob Cassady officiating.
