David Wayne Meckley, 93, of Newark, died Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Arlington Care Center. He was born July 19, 1931 in Newark to the late Harold Arthur and Frances Lillian (Davis) Meckley.
David graduated from Newark High School class of 1949 where he played basketball and baseball. He then went and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He retired from Owens Corning where he worked from 1949-1986. After retiring from Owens Corning he then worked at Licking Memorial Hospital as a courier from 1990-2003. David enjoyed golfing, watching NASCAR and cheering for the Buckeyes and Browns.
He is survived by daughters, Marcia (Jeff) Priest and Christa Gutridge; daughter-in-law, Lou Meckley; grandchildren, Mallory (Robb) Spangler, Melanie (Jordan) Shepard, Katie Gutridge, Kendra (Brad) Haire, and Kelsey (Patrick) Kunz; great grandchildren, Jace and Macy Shepard, Dex and Dane Spangler, Madilyn and Nash Haire and Kenzie, Khloe and Karley Kunz; nieces, Sue Hedrick, Jody (Greg) Simross, and Cindy (Mark) Walters; and nephews, Bill (Dreama) Meckley and Jeff, Steve (Laura), John, and James Keinath.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joyce; son, James David Meckley; brother, Richard Meckley; and sister-in-law, Jessie Meckley.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Arlington Care Center for the care, coffee and donuts they provided to David.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of David to Nationwide Children's Hospital and/or American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 11 am-1 pm at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Pastor David Linn officiating. Burial will follow the service at Cedar Hill Cemetery where military honors will be presented by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
