David Lee Place went home to be with the Lord and many of his family members on December 22, 2024 at Arlington Care Center, Newark, Ohio. David was born on August 28, 1940 to the late Dallas Howard Place Sr. and Neva Edgerley Place in Columbus.

David came into the world with the odds against him only weighing 3 lbs. 5 oz. No one thought he would live but his mother had faith that God could do the impossible. The Lord blessed him with an extraordinary life, shaping him into a kind, intelligent and compassionate man with a very generous heart.

He proudly served in the Navy and later enjoyed a fulfilling career with Western Electric/Lucent until his retirement. Following his retirement, David pursued the HVAC business alongside lifelong friend, Bill Moore.

David had a deep love for the Lord and devoted much of his life to serving the church. Over the years, he contributed in many ways, including driving the church bus, singing in the choir, running the sound system, teaching Sunday School and serving on the church board. He had a special place in his heart for his furry friends, having rescued many cats and dogs throughout his lifetime.

David was also passionate about traveling, photography, ham radios, cars, trains and flying small aircraft. His adventures took him around the world, visiting numerous countries and nearly every state in the U.S. He was a gifted storyteller with a keen sense of humor and delighted in sharing his tales of his travels and life experiences with family and friends.

David is survived by his stepchildren David Marquart, Jennifer (Wesley) Barnett, Mary Beth (Adam) Young; his nieces, Karen (Roger) Keller, Sharon (Mike) Weaver, Deborah (Scott) Lucas; nephew Jay (Deanna) Lybarger; and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Place; brother, Dallas Place Jr.; sister Wanda Lybarger; sister-in-law, Betty Place; brother-in-law, Everett Lybarger; nephew, Dallas H. Place; and great-nephew, Christopher Place.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Courtyard East Assisted Living, Arlington Care Center, Hospice and Home Instead for their exceptional care.

Per David's wishes there will be no calling hours. The family will hold a private celebration of his life at a later date.
