Dean R Somerlot, 67, of Newark, died Friday, April 2, 2021 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born February 10, 1954 in Richwood, OH to the late Raymond Somerlot and Helen (Cramer) Weaver.

Dean graduated from Denison University and worked in the Newark City Schools as a teacher and coach for 35 years. He continued to work as a substitute teacher in retirement. He was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger. He enjoyed golfing and loved spending time with family and friends. He was like a second dad to so many that loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Elizabeth "Beth" (Cole) Somerlot; three children, Shaen (Jessica) Somerlot of Dublin, OH, Ryan (Mary Clare Zavada) Somerlot of Crofton, MD, and Sarah (Chris) Somerlot Miller of Pataskala, OH; step-son, Douglas (Jami) Cole formerly of Newark now of Maricopa, AZ; four grandchildren, Stella, Miles Dean, and Isabelle Somerlot, and Kyleigh Cole; one brother, Criss (Rita) Somerlot; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Somerlot and Helen and George Weaver; and mother-in-law, Mary Cole.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 7, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21 st St., Newark. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Claibourne Cemetery in Richwood, OH.
