Edna Louise
Gurney
Oct 6, 1935 — Aug 9, 2024
Newark
Edna Louise Gurney (age 88) of Newark walked into the arms of Jesus on Friday, August 9, 2024, after being in the hospital for a brief illness.
Edna was born on October 6, 1935, to the late David E. and Gladys D. (Febris) Gurney in Alexandria, Ohio. Edna grew up on the Gurney farm off of Raccoon Valley Road in Alexandria. Edna's cousin remembers ice skating when they were young at the farm pond and going shopping with Edna when she would come to visit with them. She is remembered for always having the time for them despite being busy. Edna graduated from Alexandria High School in 1953. She took college secretarial courses which helped her in her career with National Gypsum Co., ET Rugg, Realty Development, LEADS, Licking County Family YMCA, and the United Methodist District office in Newark.
Edna was always active in her community. She loved being a member of the Wright Memorial Church in Newark, Ohio and used her beautiful soprano voice to lead the singing and provide special music for services. She also used her voice to sing in the local Vintage Voices group. Edna loved being a part of other organizations such as the Red Hat Society and was the past President and Treasurer of the Business Women's Association (ABWA). Her other interests included traveling (especially her trip to Israel), reading about Britain and the royal family, collecting angels, cardinals, covered bridge pictures, Coca-Cola items, and loved watching old western movies. She loved reading her Bible and studying God's Word, and was eager to learn more.
Edna is survived by her cousins Karen Holley of Illinois, and Sue Ann (David) Griffen of California, family friend Esther (Mark) Villinger and family, and her dear church family at Wright Memorial Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 11am at the Wright Memorial Church, with Pastor Don Moshgat officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Edna's memory to Wright Memorial Church, 735 Mt. Vernon Rd., Newark, Ohio 43055.
