Obituary

Elaine Newton, age 63, courageously triumphed, after a 12 year war against cancer, when God rescued her & defeated her enemy on June 7, 2024. Elsie Elaine Newton was born in Newark, Ohio on April 18, 1961 to the late Ruth Ann Pethtel & Brodie L. Newton.

Elaine was a 1979 graduate of Utica High School & the LCJVS Horticulture program. Elaine was always known for her beauty.  As a teen and young adult, she worked with her family at Aladdin's Restaurant in Granville & was often referred to as "The Prettiest Girl in Town ''. In 1982, she married Jim Brown with whom she spent the next 23 years working to build a better life. Elaine was not afraid of the manual labor this required. Despite her petite stature, she was incredibly strong and a hard worker. She was employed at Owen's Corning Fiberglas. After dedicating almost 20 years of her life in the factory on the packing line & later as a maintenance dispatcher, she retired. Shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed with breast cancer yet met it fearlessly. She was determined not to let it hinder or change her life. Throughout her battle, in the face of immeasurable physical pain, she remained positive & steadfast in her ability to withstand & overcome. In the last ten years of her life, she loved & took care of her dogs– her "babies". She liked to stay up late at night chatting on her computer, drinking Coca-Cola, & smoking cigarettes. She enjoyed listening to music, shopping, & going on vacation. Most of all, she loved spending time with family & friends. Elaine was thoughtful, kind, & protective. She was always thinking of others & willing to help anyone in need. She was a friendly neighbor who truly cared about those around her. Likewise, she was appreciative to those that cared for & helped her. Elaine was a warrior against cancer & an anomaly, by far outliving every statistic. She never, not once, considered giving up.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Dianne Bonte, Cindy Broseus, & Sherry Newton.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Ashley Brown of Mount Vernon; her brother, Larry Newton of New Holland; her sister, Gena (Shawn) Bradshaw, of Gahanna; her special cousins, Elizabeth "Skeeter" & Niki Snelling of Coshocton; her aunt, Pat Lawrence of Newark; one grand-daughter, Desiree Atkins; and two great-grandchildren, Atticus & Alaina. In addition to several cousins, nieces & nephews, Elaine is also survived by many special, long-time friends including: Diana Weiland, Nancy Davis, Judy Ramsey, Joyce Dickerson, & Regina Akers (the best dog nanny ever) –all of Newark.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 14, 2024 from 12-2 pm at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. A graveside service will follow visitation at Newark Memorial Gardens.
