Emery J. Merritt, III

A funeral service for Emery J. Merritt, III, 70, of Columbus, OH, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark OH. Military honors will be conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Emery passed away August 10, 2025, at the Kobacker House. He was born October 28, 1954, in Mansfield, OH, to the late Emery J. Merritt, Jr. and Emma (Holmes) Merritt.

Emery was a United States Army veteran (1974-1994). He retired after 43 years from DSCC as a customer service specialist and worked part time as a Walmart greeter. Emery was a member of Higher Ground Church where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed cross-country skiing and working out.

He is survived by his children, Amy (Brian) Dingess, Kenya Black, Arron (Nyisha) Merritt, and Stacy (Myleka) Merritt; sisters, Teresa (Anthony) Douglas-Fluellen and Stephanie (Barrett) Harris-Brooks; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Christian Black.
