Eric Jonathon
Gilkey
Apr 15, 1980 — Apr 1, 2025
Newark
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eric J. Gilkey on April 1, 2025. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Eric's kindness and gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was born on April 15, 1980, in Cincinnati to Joe and Elizabeth (Ferren) Gilkey.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Kayla; cherished children, Liam and Ava Gilkey; beloved pets, Mazie and Kitten; parents, Joe and Liz Gilkey; sister, Maggie Gilkey; father and mother-in-law, Douglas and Debra Ward; sister-in-law, Deisa (Greg) Woolum; brother-in-law, Jared (Taylor) Ward; nieces and nephews, Zella and Lydia Woolum, Bo and Indie Ward; a host of extended family and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, James and Kathleen Gilkey; and maternal grandparents, Noble and Margaret Ferren.
Eric had an insatiable curiosity about the world, always eager to learn and explore new ideas. Whether he was tracking storms, following his favorite sports teams, or diving into a new interest, he approached life with an inquisitive mind and a deep appreciation for the details that others might overlook. His love for weather tracking was more than a hobby—it was a reflection of his keen observation and excitement for understanding the world around him. And when it came to sports, Eric was an avid fan, cheering passionately and sharing his enthusiasm with family and friends.
Above all, Eric was a man of unwavering love and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand. His days were spent caring for his family, providing for them, and filling their lives with laughter, warmth, and joy. His infectious smile, quick wit, and kind heart will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
While we grieve this great loss, we take comfort in knowing that this parting is only temporary. As the words of Matthew 5:4 remind us:
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."
A Celebration of Eric's life will be held at Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home on Monday, April 7, 2025. The family will receive friends from 12pm - 2pm, where his funeral service will follow at 2pm, with Pastor Aaron Snyder officiating. He will be cremated at a later date.
