Florence Josephine Carlson, 92, of Newark, died Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Altercare Newark North. She was born February 10, 1933 in Port Clinton, OH to the late Walter and Florence (Schroeder) Shirley.

Florence dedicated her entire career to the Federal Civil Service and later retired from Boeing. Known for her sharp eye for a good deal, she enjoyed shopping on QVC and HSN. A devoted animal lover, she especially cherished the companionship of her beloved dogs, who brought her joy and comfort throughout the years.

She is survived by her good friends and neighbors, Merel and Linda Pickenpaugh, Maxine Williams, Sally Keck, Larindia Moore and Bev Biggs; step daughter, Teresa Hagen; and lifelong friend, June Gall.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Carlson.

A special thank you to Elaine, her dedicated guardian, and to the compassionate staff at Altercare Newark North for the attentive and loving care they provided to Florence over the past six months.

A private graveside service will be held at St. Paul Cemetery in Marblehead, Ohio, where she will be laid to rest in the peace of her beloved hometown.
