Gary Eugene Smith

Gary Eugene Smith, age 67, of Newark, passed away on October 13, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Gary was born on March 18, 1959, in Zanesville, Ohio to the late George Presley and Mary Louise (McNutt) Smith.

He was a proud member of VFW Post 1060. He enjoyed golfing and was a loyal fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. He also loved listening to music, especially Journey and Toby Keith, which brought him much enjoyment throughout his life.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Cookie; children, Chatty, Christina (Dave), Joe, Julie (Cody), Jackie, Kylen (Asia); grandchildren, Amanda, Amy, Alyssa, Brianna, Braden, Megan, Brandt, Tanner, Arin, Emilee, Joey, Makayla, Logan, Peanut, Chelsea, Ethan, Lexi, Noelle, Nolan, Nyjah; many great grandchildren; siblings, George (Pam), Barb (Keith), Shirley (Dana), and Nancy.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Mitzie, Rod and Terri.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 3 – 8 PM at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. Where his funeral will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 1 PM with Pastor Jay Dilo officiating. The burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens.
