Gary Arthur Kohser, of Granville, Ohio, passed peacefully at home surrounded by love, on October 22, 2024. He was born May 1st, 1946, in Elwood City, Pennsylvania to the late Glenn H. Kohser and the late Donna (Geddes) Young. Gary attended West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia and Rio Grande University, in Rio Grande, Ohio. He retired from American Electric Power Corporation, in New Albany Ohio, after 43 years of devoted service. "He did a good job keeping the lights on."

Gary was a foster parent for Golden Endings Golden Retriever Rescue. He volunteered at the Dawes Arboretum as a Bluebird Trail monitor and was known as the grandfather of the Monarch Butterfly Nursery. Gary loved baking bread and pizza and continued throughout his life, experimenting with recipes he had previously perfected. He was a lifelong learner with a passion for science, cameras, naval and aviation technology, experiencing many flights in an ultra-light aircraft. He spent many pleasant Sunday afternoons napping through the Cleveland Brown's football games with his best friend, Jim McBride. Gary enjoyed memorable family vacations on the New England coast and Cape Hatteras National Seashore - enthralled with the ocean and the technology of lighthouses. He religiously followed politics, never missed a vote, and would be quite blue with the results of the recent election. Known for his sense of humor - he never met a stranger.

Gary is preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Alan Kohser, of Marietta, Georgia. He is survived by his wife, of fifty-seven years, Nina (Rorrer) Kohser; his loving daughters, Heather Kohser, and her wife, Madaid Lopez, of Isle La Motte, Vermont, and Emily Kohser, of Newark Ohio; devoted grandson, Cian Talbott, and beloved granddaughter, Jemma Talbott. Gary is also survived by his brother, Leslie Young, and his wife Donna, of Gallipolis, Ohio; sister, Lisa Young, of Proctorville, Ohio; sister, Dr. Virginia Young, and her wife, Dr. Ann Linden, of Portsmouth, Ohio; brother, Otis "Chip" Young III, and his wife Carolyn, of Gallipolis, Ohio; sister, Sharon Blevings, of Aiken, South Carolina; loving poodles, Pippin and Zoe, and devoted cat, Mrs. Murphy the Dairy Queen.

Per Gary's wishes, there will be no calling hours, with a private family gathering at a later date. Donations in Gary's memory can be made to The Dawes Arboretum and Ohio's Hospice of Central Ohio.
