Gary Robert
Tosi
Jul 17, 1948 — Feb 5, 2025
Newark
Gary Robert Tosi, 76, of Newark, died Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born July 17, 1948 in Oregon, OH to the late Robert "Bob" and Laverne (Drager) Tosi.
Gary was a true jack-of-all-trades, a man who could fix anything and always had a creative solution to any problem. His career took him all over Ohio. He was a technician at the Newark Air Force Base, a custodian for Licking Valley School District, the beehive inspector for Licking County, and eventually settled into running his own sawmill business. But his talents didn't stop there. He also raised pheasants and trout, was an avid woodworker and mechanic—he had a knack for both precision and craftsmanship.
His love for the outdoors ran deep—hunting, fishing, ice fishing, boating, and raising his chickens were among his favorite pastimes. He loved ice skating and hockey so much that he shared this love by building an ice rink for his family in the front yard. He was a self-taught forester and believed in conservation by taking care of the land and planting trees. No matter the season, he found joy in nature and passed that love down through the generations.
More than anything, he loved his family. He put them first in everything he did, offering support, knowledge, and a sense of humor. He lovingly referred to his wife as his soulmate. If you looked through his wallet you would find pictures of all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. No one was ever referred to by their first name because everyone had a nickname specially chosen by him. The times he loved the most were the ones surrounded by family. His quick wit, inventive mind, and kindness left an imprint on everyone who knew him.
Though he's no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the countless things he built—both with his hands and in the hearts of those he loved.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Lee Tosi; children, Rebecca (Keven) VanWey, Adam (Nicole) Tosi and Brian (Andrea) Tosi; grandchildren, Christopher (Dominique) Haggerty, Brandon (Krystal) Haggerty, Scout (Jacob) Milhorn, Sophia Tosi, Brayden Tosi and Blake Tosi; great grandchildren, Briar and Paisley Haggerty; sister, Kathy Butler; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Pat Bowland; and brothers, Butch Jaquillard and Jim Tosi.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Gary to Look Up Center, 50 O'Bannon Ave., Newark, OH 43055 and/or DAV (Disabled American Veterans), P.O. Box 1430, Cincinnati, OH, 45250.
