Helen M. Shaw

Helen M. “Burchard” Shaw, age 76, of Newark passed away on June 25, 2026, at the Laurels of Heath. Helen was born on July 29, 1949, in Newark to the late Shelton R. Sr., and Mildred Mae (Lake) Burchard.

She was a woman of many passions and talents, finding happiness in cooking, baking, painting, and crafting. She enjoyed spa days, collecting memories with loved ones, and hosting treasured tea parties with her grandchildren. She loved lighthouses, angels, and the music of Elvis Presley. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, and she held a special place in her heart for her beloved grand dog, Cash.

She is survived by her children, Ruby (William “Bill”) Thornton, Paul (Colleen) Hockman; grandchildren, Jessica (Abbey) Dickman, Kayla and Brynley Hockman, William “Billy” (Lindsay) Thornton Jr., Elizabeth (Bradley) Thornton, Selena (Austin) Thornton; great grandchildren, Madison Thornton, Taylor Bresett and Elena Hutchison; sisters, Darlene and Deb; sister-in-law, Sue Burchard; beloved extended family, Crystal Hutchison, Lexi, Moni and Lenny Hutchison; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Jesse; siblings, John, Shelton “Butch”, James “Fred”, Mary Jane, Avalon “Sue”, Nellie, beloved extended family, Trey Hutchison.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 11 – 1 pm at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, where her service will immediately follow at 1 pm with Pastor Wayne Harris officiating. Burial will take place in Newark Memorial Gardens.
