James Michael Coots, age 66, of Newark, died at his home Sunday, June 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on June 10, 1960, to Shirley (Wright) and the late James T. Coots.

James was well respected by his co-workers and friends. He never had a negative word to say about anyone and was always willing to offer a helping hand. He was very loving and supportive of his family, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He enjoyed teaching his boys how to fish and work with their hands. He also enjoyed ornithology/birdwatching, and rooting for the Minnesota Vikings and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Angela (Wolford) Coots; children, James Jordan Coots and Mary Ann Coots; grandchildren, Holden, Hayden, and Heath; siblings, Greg (Linda) Coots, Ronnie Coots, Rusty (Heidi) Coots, and Karen (T.J.) Hindel.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Debbie (Ron) Nipper.

Visitation will be held from 6pm-8pm Thursday, June 25, and 10am-11am Friday, June 26, 2026, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st, St. Newark, Ohio 43055. An 11am funeral service will take place following Friday’s visitation, with a graveside service at Newark Memorial Gardens immediately after the funeral service, Pastor Jeff Hawkins officiating.
