James "Jim" Edgar Grower, age 92, of Newark, passed away at his home Saturday, August 10, 2024, just shy of his 93rd birthday. He was born in Rome, New York on August 14, 1931, to the late Earle and Maude (Elliot) Grower.
Jim was drafted into the Army and served in Korea from (1951-1954). While serving in Korea, Jim contracted TB and was returned to the USA for treatment at the Sunmount TB Sanatorium in Sunmount, New York. He attended Syracuse University in New York. Jim retired from the Newark Air Force Base in 1988, after 35 years of Government service. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 771, LCCS and NARFE, Chapter 310.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Wilson) Grower; children, Bradley Grower of Coshocton, Ohio, Jennifer Grower of Newark, Ohio; sisters, Margaret Grower of Boonville, New York, and Marjorie Brown of Forestport, New York; brother-in-law, Robert Oren of Berryville, Virginia; nieces, Susan Franklin of Remsen, New York, Linda Hart of Lee Center, New York, as well as many other nieces and nephews; god-children, Betsy Gordon Thompson of Summerville, South Carolina and Ashley Gordon Perkins of Heath, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and six brothers.
Visitation will take place from 11am-12pm Monday, August 19, 2024, followed by a 12pm Memorial service with military honor presented by the Licking County Veterans Alliance, at First United Methodist Church, 88 N 5th, St. Newark, Ohio 43055, Pastors Barbara Salyers and Peter Borhauer officiating. A luncheon will be provided immediately following the service.
