James H. "Jim" Holland, 89, passed away at his home from an accidental fall Saturday evening on September 7, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carolyn Ann Holland, whom he married on 12/15/1956 in Marne, Ohio; son, Brad (Michelle) Holland; daughters,  Jamie Holland and Lisa (Dennis) Oliver; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the last of 10 siblings, plus his mother, Dolores Holland, who lived to be 103 years old. Jim was born south of Corning, Ohio on March 26, 1935. He was raised a coal miner's son of humble beginnings. He was hired by Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation in 1955 as a laborer, and later as a general foreman. Jim had great rapport with his Kaiser family. He retired in 1990 after 35 years service. Jim & Carolyn loved spending their winters in North Port, Florida from 1985 - 2023. Meanwhile, in the summers of Ohio, he was a farmer at heart and planted crops on his 54-acre farm with his tractors. He always had a green thumb and planted the most luscious gardens too, especially his tomatoes. Jim was a self-taught construction man as he built the family home in 1966, and he also built barns and refurbished numerous other homes and projects. Jim Holland loved watching Ohio State football & basketball. He started playing golf in 1966 and loved the game. He had a respectable handicap, and won many league titles and he enjoyed watching the pros on TV. He was quite good at playing poker & euchre and he loved antiques if the price was right. He loved watching high school/collegiate wrestling, and he loved watching the Cleveland Browns, from the early 50s, up until they moved the team out of Ohio. He was also a true storyteller as he had so many interesting and funny stories to tell, as he had a great sense of humor. Jim was a strong and powerfully-built man, who deep down had a warm and caring heart. Jim was a great husband & father to his wife Carolyn and his children Brad, Jamie & Lisa, and was always supportive in all their hopes, visions and dreams. A friend once said "Jim Holland is a horse of a different color", and it was true, because he fulfilled his potential as a kind, hard-working, law-abiding human being. He gave himself to his fellow man and helped others in need. He was a great man and set a strong example with an infectious spirit and personality. We take comfort in knowing he is with his loved ones in heaven and we will be reunited with him one day. There will be a private family gathering and a burial at Newark Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the charity of their choice in dads name.  He will be so sorely missed by his family he leaves behind, with so many tears on our cheeks.
