James "Speedy" L. Hughes, Jr., 60 of St. Louisville passed away on September 7, 2025 at OSU Medical Center. He was born on November 24, 1964 in Seattle, WA to the late James L. and Edith Marie (Hensley) Hughes, Sr.
Speedy was an active member of his community throughout his life. He was the dedicated owner of Speedy's Towing and Recovery for 20 years and Hughes Trucking for 20 years prior. He was a retired Police Chief for Union Township. A man of many passions, Speedy was an honorary member of the Utica Fire Department and gave generously of his time, volunteering for Vic's Mud Bog, countless poker runs, and other local charity events. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, loved drag racing and enjoyed traveling. His loyal dogs were never far from his side. He loved people and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his life partner, Tina Cummings; sons, Cyle (Amanda) Hughes, Christopher (Ashley) Hughes and Adam (Tessa) Hughes; and grandchildren, Cyle Jr., Mackenzie, Madison, James, Katherine, Halie, Aubrey, Lexie, Maddox and Gavin.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Hughes.
The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. Funeral service will be held at 1pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Eden Cemetery.
