Obituary

James J. "Jim" Martin, 92, of Newark, died Friday, September 27, 2024 at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Center. He was born June 5, 1932 in Woodsfield, Ohio to the late James Everett and Janie (Kiser) Martin.

Jim retired from Newark Processing as a crane operator where he worked 42 years.  He enjoyed working in his yard, drawing, and cheering for the Buckeyes and Browns.  He bowled in several leagues for many years in the local area.  He was a true family man and loved spending time with his family and granddogs.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Verla; children Jeffrey (Cristy) Martin, Janet (John) Martin and Jill (Trevis Thompson) Martin; grandchildren, Merle (Tiffany) Albright, Kelli (Scott) Sheppard, and Jamie Lane; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to his nieces Debbie Bandy and Jeannie Parkinson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Bill Martin and Bob Martin; sister Iona Huffman.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jim to Hospice of Central Ohio and/or Licking County Humane Society.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 6:30-8:30 pm. at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark and Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 10-11 am at the funeral home.  The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 11:00 am with Pastor Cory Campbell officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Newark Memorial Gardens.
