Jerry Don Dickey, 88, of Newark, Ohio, died on April 16, 2025.

Born in Aspermont, Texas, Jerry spent his early years in towns across West and Northwest Texas before his family moved to Kaycee, Wyoming, when he was fifteen years old. It was then that he began working summers as a roughneck in the oil fields.

During his senior year of high school, Jerry left school to help support his family after his father was injured. Shortly afterward, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Japan. After completing his service, he returned home to Wyoming. He continued working for the Air Force as a civilian employee at bases in Cheyenne, WY, and Plattsburgh, NY, and was among the first to be hired at the Newark Air Force Base.  It was then that he pursued higher education, majoring in Computer Science at Ohio State University, and later earned a master's in business administration from Western Michigan University. Jerry built a long and meaningful career as a computer scientist working in metrology and missile guidance, and later management at the Newark Air Force Base.

Jerry was an avid reader, often reading a book a day.  He loved playing golf and enjoyed playing golf with Herb, Ron, and the rest of the guys from the base in several of the base leagues. He learned to make his own golf clubs and made clubs for himself and several friends. He credited his love of golf to his Scottish ancestry. He always enjoyed working with computers and, in the 1970s, made his own first home computer. He also enjoyed woodworking and was very skilled in carving.  He had a great fondness for British comedies. Although usually a very quiet man, his laughter would shake the whole house when he watched his favorite comedies. Yet, most of all, Jerry loved traveling back to Wyoming with his beloved wife, Joyce Ann (Haskin) Dickey.

Jerry was a devoted husband to his wife Joyce. In the mid-1970's, he encouraged her to attend nursing school and never failed to talk about her accomplishments in nursing and beyond. They loved to go shopping and dine out at Easton. As a father, he never failed his daughters. Whether it was a broken-down car, computer problems, or even a failed marriage, he was the constant and quiet force coming to their aid. He passed his love and value of education on them, and his pride in being a Buckeye. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, Andy and Codi, especially when they were little, and teaching them how to play games on his computer.

Jerry is preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce; his parents; his brothers, Tad and Claude; and his sisters, Etta Henderson and Thoma Koleta VanNorman.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kelli Trick and Michele Dickey; his grandchildren, Andy (Courtney) Trick and Codi (Ryan) Boeckermann; and his great-grandchildren, Hazel, Milo, Freya, and Ansel. He is also survived by his brother, John (Sharon) Dickey, and his sisters, Carol Hutsell and Merry Dickey, as well as extended family and friends who will deeply miss him and carry his memory forward with love.
