Joan "Jo" M. Patterson, 95 of Thornville passed away on June 19, 2024 at Arlington Care Center. She was born on September 1, 1928 in Thornville to the late Chester and Gladys (Dupler) Ortman.

Jo worked in food service at Denison University and Newark City Schools. She was an avid golfer, bowler and gardener. She also enjoyed playing dominos, traveling and most of all spending time with her loved ones. She was a very special person that will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her son, Barry (Jan) Patterson; daughter, Cheri Miller; great-grandchildren, Tyler Sullivan, Katelyn and Tritney Brewer; great-great-grandchildren, Avery and Kennley Sullivan and Kaiden Brewer; sisters-in-law, Mary Ortman and Virginia Rardain; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Waldo L. Patterson; son-in-law, Richard "Mike" Miller; grandson, Jason Miller; granddaughter, Cindy Martin; sisters, Donna Jean Slater and Norma Lee Moore; and brother, Paul Ortman.

A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11-1pm prior to the service.
