Joann Sparrow

A memorial service for Joann Sparrow, 50, of Newark, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2025, at Christian Apostolic Church, 22 N. 23rd St. Newark, OH 43055.

Joann passed away August 14, 2025, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born November 18, 1974, in Newark, OH, to Cheryl (Messina) Woltjen and the late Edward "Joe" Fowler.

Joann had an unwavering love for Jesus.

She is survived by her mother, Cheryl (Fred) Woltjen; son, Braxton Sparrow, siblings, Verdeana Grover, and Stacy Jo and Joe Fowler; sister-in-law, Lynn Sparrow; nephew, Bryson Allen-Grover; niece, Cherae Allen-Grover; great-niece, Amariana Allen-Grover; nephew, Aceton Allen-Wiley; significant other of 14 years, Chuck Bruce; aunts, Darlene VanWinkle, Mary Provance, and Carla Messina; uncles, Dave Messina, Earl Messina, Gary (Ginny) Messina, and Joe Messina, and ex-husband, Edward Sparrow.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eleanor and Joe Messina; aunt, Rhoda Messina, and uncles, Rozzi Messina, Bill Messina, Orlan "Bunch" Messina, and Mike Messina.
