In Loving Memory of John F. Gardner

It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved John F. Gardner, 61, of Thornville. John passed away December 4, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, friendship and faith.

Born on June 29, 1963, in Akron, OH, John brought light and joy to those who knew him. He was a proud graduate of John Glenn High School, and Ohio University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He later earned a Master of Science in Nursing at Otterbein University, becoming a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner.

John's life was a testament to faith, service, and community. A proud veteran, he served honorably in the U.S. Army and Air Force, carrying his love for his country into every role he undertook. As a leader in the Ohio Department of Corrections' Bureau of Medical Services, John's commitment to service extended to those in need, demonstrating both strength and compassion. His deep faith found a home at More Life Church of Newark, where he cherished worship and fellowship with his community. As the proud owner of Laser Skin Solutions, John dedicated himself to providing compassionate and meticulous care to his patients, promoting their health, wellness, and longevity.

The heart of John's life was his beloved wife of 25 years, Tammy. Together, they created a life filled with adventure and love, exploring the world through travel, hiking, and camping, and creating countless cherished memories with their wonderful family. John was not just a husband but a devoted father and grandfather, always eager to share his passions. He found joy in teaching his children and grandchildren the beauty of the outdoors—hunting, playing, and exploring nature. John's lifelong curiosity and love for learning were evident in his passion for cooking, exploring cultures, hunting, and embracing every opportunity to discover and share new experiences.

John's unwavering love, kind spirit, and boundless enthusiasm for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was a man deeply loved, respected, and admired, and his memory will be carried forward in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. John's love will live on through his family, his faith, and the countless lives he inspired.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Tammy L. (Peck) Gardner; children, Brandon (Jamie) Hopkins, Whitney Gardner, Kyle (Ariel) Gardner and Brandi Hopkins; grandchildren, Cason Hopkins, Olivia Farris, Mara Johnson, Hailey Hopkins, Brantley Hopkins, Arabella Eppley, Valerie Gardner and Alaina Gardner; siblings, Gerald (Kay) Gardner, Jr., Timothy (Sabrina) Gardner, Thomas Gardner and Anne (Mark) Barreto; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald F. Gardner Sr.; mother Eleanor "Ellie" Morgan; and step father Alfred Morgan; and his beloved dog, Snickers.

The family will receive friends from 3-6pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. Funeral service will be held at 6pm with Pastor Wes Humble officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
