John Brian Johnston, age 64, of Newark, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. He was born in Bryan, Ohio on November 10, 1961, to the late Lester and Margaret (Perl) Johnston.

John honorably and proudly served in the United States Army, 505th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division. He completed many years of public service with the city, retiring from the Newark Water Department. John was a man who loved the open road, especially on his motorcycle, and always appreciated sharing a cold beer with friends and family.

He is survived by his daughter, Alix (Josh) Alvey; his siblings, Marsha (Rodger) Jones and Jim (Sheila) Johnston; nephews David and Jim Jones; and one granddaughter, Leneya June Alvey.

A private memorial service will be held, where John will receive military honors presented by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
