John “Slatz” Lowery
A funeral service for John “Slatz” Lowery, 83, of Heath, OH, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark. There will also be a Celebration of Life from 3-6 p.m. at the Newark Station, 325 W. Main St., Newark.
Slatz passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, at his residence. He was born on July 23, 1942, in Newark, OH, to the late John and Edna (Salyer) Lowery.
Slatz had a lifelong passion for building, racing, and riding motorcycles. Whether by motorcycle, semi driving, bicycle, or running, he took great pride in his travels through 48 states. Slatz was a life member of the IAMAW, AMA (American Motorcyclist Association), along with many other motorcycle organizations throughout the years. Affectionately known as "Papaw Cycle," he was a devoted grandfather who faithfully supported his grandchildren at their sporting events and cherished every opportunity to cheer them on.
He is survived by his children, Jeff (Janet) Lowery and Carrie (Rob) Ferguson; grandchildren, Zachery Lee (Megan) Lawrence, Katie Sarah (Ricky) Armstrong, Jeffery Edward (Gabrielle) Lowery, and Aleesa Fairley; great-grandchildren, EJ, Camber, Grayson, Spencer, Finnegan, and Kane; sister, Debby Kirk, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his lifelong love, Patricia (Beckstead) Lowery; brother, Donald Lowery, and great-granddaughter, Estella Marie.
Slatz wanted to give special thanks and recognition to those who generously gave their love and time to him.
