John Porter Ragon, 80, of Newark, died Sunday, February 16, 2025 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born June 4, 1944 in Marion, IN to the late Leroy and Nora Ragon.
John served as a minister of the United Pentecostal Church International for over 50 years and pastored several churches. He also loved his time working at Riverview Industries supporting adults with developmental disabilities. His deep passion for studying the Bible came out in his conversations as he found a way to weave scripture into nearly every discussion. A true worshipper at heart, he was happiest singing praises to the Lord. He also enjoyed art and telling stories to anyone who would listen.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Barb Ragon; children, Don (Christine) Ragon, Chris (Elizabeth) Ragon and Ann (Shane) Hancock; step children, Amy (Darren) Hurst and Mark (Colleen) Rine; grandchildren, Courtney, Lauren (Nolan), Alyssa, Dylan, Caleb (Danielle), Destawny, Ragon, Adley, Alison (Samuel), Mark, Elizabeth, Samantha, Brooke, Austin, Ralph and Enzo; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Cynthia Gibson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Lee Ragon; sisters, Janice (Larry) Thomas and Pamela (James) Griffie; and brother-in-law, Jack Gibson.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John to the Christian Apostolic Church Building Fund, 22 N. 23rd St., Newark.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 5:00-6:00 pm at the Christian Apostolic Church, 22 N. 23rd St., Newark where the funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor G. Keith Sjostrand officiating. A graveside service will be held at Sackett Cemetery in Lakeside Marblehead, OH on Thursday.
