A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 Monday, March 11th at Brucker and Kishler Funeral home, 985 N. 21st, St. Newark, Ohio with Rev. Chad Penhorwood officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson cemetery with Rev. Kara Swartz.

June passed away peacefully with family at her bedside on Wednesday, March 6th. She was born January 25, 1930, to the late Burrel and Alice (Glancy) Harman in Key, West Virginia at the ancestral farmhouse. On this land her great-great-great Grandfather had discovered a cave. Her father opened it as Seneca Cavern where she and her brothers played. As a teen she was an usherette at the Midland Theatre where a soldier came along, and bought three boxes of popcorn from her. The next year, on November 23, 1946, June eloped with that soldier, her lifetime mate Richard Butts. She was a 1947 graduate of Newark High School

While raising their three children, she was a dedicated volunteer as Sunday school teacher at Plymouth Congregational Church, room-mother at Lincoln School, Girl Scout leader and camp director for the Girl Scouts. Later she became a Girl Scout executive for Heart of Ohio Girl Scout Council and also chairman of the board and interim executive director for the Red Cross. After retirement, she became a monthly columnist for the Advocate. Mastering the computer she wrote and published five books and later had five stories published in Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Her novels are Father Was A Caveman, We Were Vagabonds, and Along Came A Soldier. She participated in book signings and spoke at book clubs. In her 80s, she was chairman of the local book club and active in Foxy Ladies who were alumni from the class of 47.

In later years she joined Newark Central Christian Church.

She is survived by daughter, Sharlyn (Charles) Brown, Janice (Michael) Large; son, Ric Betz (Dan Hutkowski). Grandchildren, Deborah (Michael) Sturgill, Rebecca (Eric) Maskrey, Timothy (Heather) Brown, Barbara (Dr. Mike) McFarland, Eric (Mona) Large, Christa (Dan) Haedtke, Angela (Jason) Lee, Damian (Amanda) Betz, Alex (Aly) Betz, and Vanessa (Aras) Saulys; plus 26 great grandchildren; brothers, Fred and Bill Harman, sister-in-law, Joann Harman. Besides parents, she was preceded in death by Richard (her husband of 64 years), stepmother, Polly Harman, and brothers, Cecil Harman and Richard (Bev) Harman.
