Margarette Viola Miller, 100, of Newark, died Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at The Courtyard of Newark. She was born March 30, 1926 in McDowell County, WV to the late Ernest and Mabel (Clark) Hoops.

Margarette was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church and the Newark Elks Auxiliary. She took great pride in her home and yard, especially tending to her flowers and watching them bloom. She enjoyed reading, cheering on her beloved Bengals, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and her cherished four-legged companion, Daisy. These simple joys brought her much happiness and filled her days with love and companionship.

She is survived by her children, Jacquelyn (Larry) Waterman, Jan Earl (Gayle) Miller, Jennifer (Gregg) Sorg and Jill Gillam; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Miller; brothers, Jack, Troy and Franklin Hoops; and sister, Sylvia Stevens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Margarette to Hospice of Central Ohio.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 11-12 pm at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark where the memorial service will follow at 12:00 pm.
