Marlyn Joann Wetzel

Marlyn Joann (Miller) Wetzel, 91, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026. She was born in McConnelsville, Ohio, on January 19, 1935, to Francis and Freda (Wymer) Miller.

Joann married her husband, Richard D. Wetzel on October 30, 1982. They shared 27 years of marriage together until his passing in 2009. Though she continued life without him, she carried the love and memories in the years that followed.

A longtime resident of Heath and Newark, Joann was a fiercely independent worker who cared for countless people over many years, even while receiving intensive cancer treatments. She was an incredibly hardworking individual, fulfilling a variety of roles at the Holiday Inn, Bull’s Eye, Continental Can and Goodin Electric where she retired from.

Joann is fondly remembered by family, especially those who spent summer weeks with her, delighting in her outstanding baking, cooking, and family outings. In her later years, Joann enjoyed visiting with her children, grandchildren, and the family’s various pets, humorously recalling which dogs were friendlier than others. A socially active person, Joann loved spending time with her many girlfriends, whom she both supported and cared for toward the end of their own earthly time.

A meticulous and proper lady, Joann kept consistent hair and nail appointments, even up to the week preceding her passing. Short of stature but not of energy or willpower, she kept a spotless home while driving herself to her appointments and errands. Attempts at rebuffing a gift from

Joann, or offering her assistance she felt was unneeded, would provoke her wry and ornery smile, which quickly put you in your place. Joann’s legacy of charitable giving, down-to-earth humor, and practical living spreads across a family that spans multiple generations and states.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Rex Lee Miller; stepson Eric Wetzel; daughter-in-law, Connie Price; sister-in-law Pat Miller; and brother-in-law Bill Morris. 

She is survived by her siblings, Bobby (Helen) Miller, Jimmy Miller, and Betty Morris; children, Stephen Price and David (Bonnie) Price; stepchildren, Wade (Cindy) Wetzel and Kelly (Beth) Wetzel; grandchildren, Josh (Jacinda) Wetzel, Kyndra (Derrick) Waites, Drake, Caleb, and Seth Wetzel, Lacey (Jeff) Craig, Kara (Steve) Wamack, Mason Price, Drew Wetzel, Caitlin (Chase) Price, Ciara Billingsley, and Kyle, Crystal and Tyler Wetzel; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Price, Claire Waites, Baylee, Colton, Keanan and Carter Wetzel, and Ansley Waites.

A private interment ceremony will be held at Wilson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
