Mary Lou Heatwole, a lifelong resident of Newark, Ohio, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 92 years old.

Born on August 5, 1932, in Newark, Mary Lou was the heart of her family and the soul of her neighborhood. She married the love of her life, Don and they shared over 40 years of marriage before his passing in 1995. Her wedding ring never left her finger as a quiet tribute to a love that never faded.

Mary Lou was known for her unwavering kindness, quiet strength, and generous spirit. Though soft-spoken, she was also strong and determined—stubborn in the best ways. Her door was always open to everyone in her neighborhood. Her home became a gathering place for family, friends, and neighbors—especially in the summer, when the pool was a magnet for fun, laughter, and memories. Though she didn't swim, she recently had the pool redone to continue the tradition of bringing people together.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Mary Lou was everything from a taxi driver to a food delivery service—always putting her family first and loving them unconditionally. She found joy in simple acts of giving and had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome and at ease.

Mary Lou loved to travel. During her years with Don, they explored the world together, creating memories that she cherished for a lifetime. In later years, she continued her adventures with her best friend, now deceased, Barbara Fulton. She remained deeply connected to those she loved, speaking daily with her sister-in-law Virginia Keinath who recently passed and her cousin, Carol Wheeler, both of whom held a special place in her heart.

Mary Lou leaves behind a legacy of love, hospitality, and strength. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched.

The family is grateful for the long, beautiful life she lived and for the community of family, friends, and neighbors who shared it with her.

Mary Lou is survived by her children, Mark (Annette) Heatwole and Lynn Heatwole; grandchildren, Kara, Morgan, and Peyton Heatwole, Erik Nelson, and Katie Heatwole-Thompson; great-grandchildren, Isla, Otto, Haylee, and Alice; sister-in-law, Angie Heatwole; special cousin, Carol Wheeler

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Don Heatwole; son, David Heatwole, and grandson, Blake Heatwole-Nelson.

Visitation will take place from 5 -7pm Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st. St, Newark, Ohio 43055. A 10 am graveside service will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery Thursday, June 5, 2025, Pastor Wally Mclaughlin officiating.
