Mary Hix, 87 years old, passed away Saturday May 17, 2025, at Mt. Carmel Grove City with her loving family by her side. Mary was born in Newcomerstown, Ohio to the late Cecil Howard and Lillian Elizabeth (Cochran) Norman.

Mary graduated from high school in 1955 in Newcomerstown.  After high school, Mary traveled back and forth by train to Newark, Ohio in preparation for her X-ray Technician career. Mary started her career at the Newark Hospital and later worked many years at Newark Family Physicians.  She was employed as their X-ray Technician and then worked the front desk – handling medical insurance billings for the office. Mary retired from there in 1988.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Bowman, who died in May 1977 and her second husband William "Bill" Hix who died in August 2009; brothers, Donald Norman and Terry (Kay) Norman; brother-in-law, John Crumley and son-in-law, Tim Journey.

Throughout her life, Mary was affectionately known to her family and friends by several names, nicknames and earned titles. She would answer to the following: Mary, Mary E., Babe, Mom, Gram, Mamaw, Grandma and Grammy Hix. It would depend on where she was or who she was with at the time. She truly loved her family and friends, and it was such a joy and honor to have been in our lives.

Mary is survived by her cherished blended family, Beverly Jones, Carol (Les) Renne, Billie Journey, Kathy (Thomas) McLeish, Patrica (Jeff) Collins, Jeff (Lisa) Bowman, Pamela (Douglas) Vickers, Jan (John) Lawrence, William (Lisa) Hix, Jr and bonus son, Randy (Lori) Bowman. Grandchildren, Jessica Karr (Rob Firchau), Judson Gutliph (Jennifer Morgan), Mark (Ann) Renne, Jeff Renne, Ryan Renne (Angie Rix), Timothy (Beth) Journey II, Todd (Cathy Michelle) Journey, Heather (Chris) Juzenas, Meghan (Josh) Stoker, Rachel (Andy) Stanczak, Jennifer (Jim) Paul, Tanaya (Greg) LeVeck, Kalee (Will) Zimmerman, Richard (Carrie) Collins, Kelsey Bowman, Seth Bowman, Emma Bowman, Brittany Vickers (John Thomason), Trent Vickers (Amanda Mikulski), Evan (Tiffany) Lawrence, Sarah (Chris) Follestad, Chase (Cheyenne) Granger, Destiny Hix (Brandon Baugartner), Liam Hix (Ryan Sandwisch) and Kristen Rust; 29 Great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Beverly Crumley, Helen Jane (Jim) Penrod; brother, Robert (Cherie) Norman; sister-in-law, Shirley Norman; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary felt so blessed to have married in 1981 and spent 28 years with her husband Bill.  They loved attending family gatherings, traveling and spending winters in Florida.  Mary loved life and her family very much.  If you were lucky enough to know and love this wonderful lady, you know how special she would make you feel just being in her presence.  She will be greatly missed but remembered forever.

The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1pm on Tuesday, May 27 before the service at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark, Ohio.  The burial will be at Wilson Cemetery, Newark, Ohio immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dawes Arboretum.
