Michael Shawn Wilson, 62, of Granville, Ohio passed away tragically and unexpectedly on October 7, 2025, following an accidental fall at his home. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.

Known as Shawn by his family, he proudly served in law enforcement for over 30 years, beginning with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and later with the Licking County Sheriff's Department, where he served as a SWAT team sniper before becoming a K9 handler. He retired in December 2023 alongside his devoted partner, K9 Sam, who preceded him in death earlier this year.

Outside of his career, Shawn found peace and happiness on his small hobby farm, caring for his draft horses, donkeys, goats, and chickens. He especially loved working with his Belgian horse, Barney, and could often be found building or tinkering in his workshop—whether his creations worked or not. Above all else, Shawn loved his family fiercely. He made sure every day that those closest to him knew how deeply he loved them. He will be remembered for his loyalty, strength, humor, and the kindness he quietly shared with everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Danielle Wilson; his two stepsons James Tyler and Shane Andrew Dolan; his sister Angie (Jim) Stevenson; brother, Mark (Patti) Wilson; nephews, P.J., Robert and Grant; along with his extended family, dear friends, and the many colleagues whose lives he touched throughout his decades of service.

Shawn is preceded in death by his parents, Irvin "Earl" and Pam Wilson; sister, Christina Wilson; nephew, Mikie Little; and grand nephew, Tre Little.

A Celebration of Life honoring Shawn may be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Licking County Sheriff's K9 unit or animal rescue in his memory.
