Monte Lynn Stalnaker, 63, of Thornville, died Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Center. He was born May 19, 1961 in Newark to the late Charles and Frances (Wilson) Stalnaker.

Monte did not know a stranger. He could walk into a room, strike up a conversation with anyone and bring brightness to any situation  He worked at Kroger in Newark for 10 years. He proudly served as a patrol officer and detective for the Columbus Police Department from 1991 to his retirement on 2010.  He was a member of Newark Elks Lodge #391 and AmVets Post #51.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Vanessa (Esworthy) Stalnaker; son, Avery (Chelsey) Stalnaker; granddaughter, Wren; niece, Victoria; nephews, Tyler and Trenton; and brother by heart and badge, Rick (Marsha) Stevens who provided unwavering love and support for 33 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Stalnaker.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Monte to Hospice of Central Ohio and/or Newark Faith Church, 261 E. Main St., Newark, OH 43055.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 5-7 pm at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark where a funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Haley Akers officiating.
