Nancy K. Brewer, age 80, of Newark, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 10, 2026, following a brief illness.
She was born September 23, 1945, in Newark, Ohio, to the late Harry Orr and Mildred Brown.
Nancy's life was a testimony to God's redeeming grace. Having experienced hardship and uncertainty in her early years, she became a woman of deep faith and devoted herself to encouraging others to trust the Lord through every season.
Nancy loved people. She had an infectious laugh, enjoyed shopping, treasured days at the beach, and rarely met a stranger. Whether at work, at church, or simply in everyday life, she delighted in making others feel welcome.
Throughout her life she embraced many opportunities to serve, working at Diebold, Rockwell, the Licking County Planning Commission, Kenyon College, and Crane Resistoflex in North Carolina. She believed that wherever God placed her was an opportunity to serve others with excellence and kindness.
One of her greatest joys was found in her church family at the Church of God at God's Acres. Alongside her beloved husband, Joe, she traveled throughout the United States in ministry, sharing the hope of Christ. Her journals reveal a woman whose greatest desire was not simply to know Scripture but to live it, believing that true Christianity was "not a creed, but a life."
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Andria Kay Knight-Waters of Bellingham, Washington; her son and daughter-in-law, Casey and Faith Davis of Newark, Ohio; and her beloved grandchildren, Michelle Davis and Caden Davis.
She is also survived by her siblings, Jerry Lee Orr (Jinny), Carol Sue Lavigne (Rick), Deborah Keogh (Marron), Lewyenne Gail Shumaker, and James Hayes Brown; she had many nieces, nephews, and cousins with whom she loved spending time; Rosie Vermillion and Celia Foran, who were her dear friends of over 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of 13 years, Howard Davis; her second husband of 27 years, Joeie Lee Brewer; and one sister, Crystal Ann Jasper.
Though she will be deeply missed, Nancy leaves behind far more than memories. She leaves a legacy of faith, perseverance, and quiet wisdom. Her handwritten journals remind us that "life is like a coin—it can only be spent once." Nancy spent hers loving God, loving people, and pointing others toward Christ.
