Obituary

Patsy P. Cummings (Pirkey) went to the arms of Jesus on February 3, 2026, at the age of 91, following an unfortunate accident in her home.

Born on August 11, 1934, in the picturesque rural community of Earlysville, Virginia, Patsy was the daughter of Herbert Charles and Mabel Earl Wood Pirkey. She completed her high school education at Earlysville High School in 1952. Shortly thereafter she was employed as an office worker at State Farm Insurance in Charlottesville, where she met her future husband, George.

George and Patsy were married in 1954 in Charlottesville, Va. and their union produced two sons Galen and Audelle. In 1960 George and Patsy moved to Newark, Ohio to work in the new State Farm regional office.  Patsy enjoyed watching baseball, cooking for family and friends, and playing bridge. She loved God, her family and encouraged them in their many interests. From the baseball diamond to bowling alleys, from motocross tracks to rock bands she was the ultimate supporter, passionately cheering on her children through every triumph and milestone.

Vivacious and spirited Patsy was a woman of faith who maintained her relationship with God throughout her life. Patsy refused to grow "old" and enjoyed traveling the world with George in their retirement years visiting Scotland, England and Australia to name a few. Even after George's passing she continued her travels with friends embracing her experiences with remarkable enthusiasm.. She continued to drive to Florida well into her eighties, she still enjoyed playing bridge and a weekly Chinese buffet.

She is survived by her sons  Galen A. Cummings (Brenda) and Audelle B. Cummings (Heather), grandchildren Victoria Outlaw, Andrew Cummings, and Tyler (Karleigh) Cummings, and great-grandchildren Royce and Bryleigh. Her brother Freddie Pirkey of Youngstown, Ohio, also survives her.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband George (2009), sister Vada Pirkey Roberts, and brothers Herbert C. Pirkey Jr. and Norman T. Pirkey.

A visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, at Brucker and Kishler funeral home, followed immediately by a service. A private burial will take place at Wilson Cemetery.
