Paul Edward Layman, age 93, of Newark, passed away at the Selma Markowitz Care Center Thursday, August 20, 2026. He was born in Newark, Ohio on May 20, 1933, to the late James Albert and Ethel (Hoskinson) Layman.

Paul was a man of Christian faith. He was a no non-sense, selfless, strong, hardworking, workaholic, man of few words. He loved his family. He enjoyed farming and fixing things, especially things that others said couldn’t be fixed. Paul was a member of Masonic Lodge #153 F.&A.M. Fredonia.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Carolyn (Grady) Layman; children; Luanne Douglas, Rebecca (Kevin) Cavener, and Todd (Michelle) Layman; grandchildren, Nate and Dannah Douglas, Josephine (Logan) Martin, Gabriella (Steele) Strout, Isabella (Weston) Wigal, Lillian Layman, Joshua (Courtney) Cavener, and Ian (Alison) Cavener; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; nephew, Michael Layman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandsons, Joshua Hayes and Auston Garey; brother, Dwight Layman; son-in-law, Larry Douglas.

Visitation will take place from 5-7pm Monday, August 24, 2026, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st. St, Newark, Ohio 43055. The funeral and graveside service will be held privately.
