Robert D
Carpenter
Sep 9, 1942 — Jan 21, 2026
Newark
Robert (Bob) Douglas Carpenter, 83, of Newark, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at home following a brief illness. He was born September 9, 1942, on the family farm in Dresden, Ohio to the late Gerald W. Carpenter and Josephine B. (Piatt) Carpenter.
Bob graduated from Jefferson High School in Dresden, Ohio in 1960. After graduating high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army. Bob spent time in Korea, where he facilitated transportation for U.S. Army officers. He also spent time at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. When he left active duty in 1965, he had reached the rank of E-5, and received two Sharpshooter badges for the M-1 and the M-14 rifles. On discharge, his specialty was as an Atomic Demolition Munitions Specialist.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Bob began working at the Newark Air Force Base in Heath, Ohio. He retired from there in 1991, after taking an early retirement.
While working full time, Bob also farmed nearly 100 acres on the farm outside St. Louisville. He and Donna purchased the farm in 1975, and sold it in 1991 when her employment took her to Westerville. With Donna still working full time, and them having moved to Johnstown, Ohio, Bob found employment at St. Albans Golf Course until they moved to Newark in 2002.
Bob and Donna were married on July 26, 1969. They were happily married for more than 55 years at the time of her death in December of 2024. They enjoyed traveling all of the United States. Bob prided himself on having been to nearly every state in the lower 48.
Bob was an avid golfer and was a member of several leagues until his later years. He enjoyed taking care of his yard, rooting for his favorite Cleveland teams, and checking his investments in the stock market multiple times daily.
Bob is survived by his daughter Dawn (Troy) Cochran; grandson Logan Cochran; sister Illya (Tom) Moore, brothers Larry Carpenter, Richard Carpenter, Don Carpenter, and Kenny Carpenter; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by infant sister Dorothy, brothers Wayne Carpenter and James Carpenter, and his maternal Aunt Dorothy (Dot) Piatt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Bob to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.
Per Bob's wishes, a private cremation will take place—no public service will occur.
