Robert G. Harner

A celebration of the life of Robert G. Harner, 79, of Newark, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, located at 985 N. 21st St., Newark. Interment will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Robert "Bob" passed away peacefully at his residence on April 27, 2025. Born on April 7, 1946, in Newark, OH, he was the cherished son of the late Lester and Emma Edith (Hoskinson) Harner. A proud 1964 graduate of Lakewood High School, Bob furthered his education at The Ohio State University.

Remarkably, Bob dedicated 59 years to the same employer, a testament to his unwavering commitment and strong work ethic. Beginning his career as a UAW line worker, he diligently rose through the ranks to become a respected Specifications Engineer at Rockwell International (later Arvin-Meritor, Meritor, and currently Cummins). Even with the opportunity to retire, Bob's dedication kept him actively engaged in his profession.

Beyond his professional life, Bob possessed a deep passion for animals and the outdoors. He devoted countless hours to the meticulous care of his family property, reflecting his inherent pride in all his endeavors. His love for the natural world was only surpassed by his profound love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family. Bob's generosity knew no bounds; he was a constant presence at every school event, extracurricular activity, graduation, and family gathering.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Jennifer A. (Michael) Trotter of Newark and Brett R. Harner of Safety Harbor, Florida; his adored grandchildren, Dylan M. (Kayla) Trotter and Cassidy M. Trotter; and his beloved grandpups and numerous rescued cats, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Deborah A. (Fields) Harner, and his dear friend, Mariana Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the National Park Foundation or the Licking County Humane Society. Bob was a passionate advocate for spaying and neutering and dedicated to providing care for animals in need.
