Roberta Marie Hartley, 95, of Newark, died Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born August 16, 1930 born and raised in Zanesville, she was the daughter of the late William and Lucy Powell.

Roberta’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She began attending the Apostolic Church with her family at the age of five, received the Holy Ghost, and was baptized at a young age. In 1954, her family became part of the Christian Apostolic Church after transferring from the Zanesville congregation. Throughout her life, she faithfully served the church in countless ways. She was a devoted Sunday school teacher, worked in the church office as both secretary and missions secretary, sang in the choir, faithfully attended ladies' prayer meetings, and spent many years serving in the campground kitchen. She also enjoyed helping make candy in the old church kitchen, especially peanut butter balls and peanut brittle, alongside Joan Post. For many years, she lovingly cared for the church's costume room, always willing to serve wherever she was needed.

She treasured her church family and held a special place in her heart for the Millersport Campground. A unique piece of family history was that she attended the very first camp ever held there. Before her marriage, she grew up on her family's 40-acre farm, where she developed the strong work ethic and loving nature that defined her life.

Outside of church, she was an avid sports fan with a special love for baseball and faithfully cheered for the Chicago Cubs. Nothing brought her greater joy than watching her grandchildren play baseball. She was also a devoted Scrabble enthusiast and was always ready for a friendly game.

She was known for her beautiful collection of hats and believed there was a perfect hat for every occasion. Whether attending church, celebrating with family, or enjoying a special event, her hats became her signature and reflected her vibrant personality. She was fun-loving, full of life, and had a way of making those around her smile.

Above all else, she loved her family with all her heart. Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and the many generations that followed. Her unwavering faith, joyful spirit, generous heart, and unconditional love leave behind a legacy that will be treasured forever by all who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert G. Hartley, whom she married at the age of 19. They shared 36 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Bill, Robert, and Jim Powell; her sister, Virginia; her two sons-in-law, Don Heissler and Richard Luzadder; and granddaughter, Lesley Speck.

She is survived by her loving sister, Wilma; her five children, Vickie (Ken) Gastineau, Valerie Heisler, Chris (Tarrie) Hartley, Venita Luzadder, and Vanessa (Mike) Cook, 24 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of her life.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 19, 2026 from 2:00- 4:00 pm at the Christian Apostolic Church, 22 N. 23rd St., Newark 43055 where the funeral service will follow at 4:00 pm with Pastor Keith Sjostrand officiating.
